USL Academy Season Recap

U20 USL Academy Boys

USL Academy U20 Boys had a fantastic season starting in March and ending within just a couple of points shy of qualifying for the National Finals. Finishing with a record of 15 wins - 2 losses - 2 draws, this was the best season record ever for Cleveland Force USL Academy! Our guys scored 51 goals while only conceding 9 . The team defending and Goalkeeping have been exceptional. Captain, Niall McClintock moving from right back to the 6 position, led the way with his tenacity, grit and great footie, inspiring the younger guys to play at new levels of confidence and intensity.

Leo Morana ended on an 9 goals in 9 games streak, while Adin Ibrahimovic had more assists (12) than the rest of the team combined as well as adding 8 goals.  Jack Roman was promoted in the spring from USL Academy to play for the USL 2 team and then went on to get quality minutes in his freshman season at Akron University this fall. Shoutout to Marko Ordorcic (Wright State University) and Noah Handzel (Bucknell University) also went on to get real quality minutes during their freshmen fall season!

Juniors Academy & Juniors Elite Updates

By: Mike Surniak

Juniors Academy:

This November, Cleveland Force welcomed over 150 players to the In-House Academy League. The league provides local players the opportunity to experience the game in a small-sided format with friends and other players from the area. It is exciting to see all the players and their families each week experience soccer and Force Coaching for the first time. If you or anyone of your friends and family have players looking for a good place to explore soccer outside of their community please visit our In-House League webpage or reach out to Coach Mike (Michael@Force-Sports.com) for more information and register for our Winter 2 (Jan 11 - Feb 15) and Winter 3 (Feb 22 - Mar 29) sessions.

Juniors Elite:
Both the Boys and Girls (G.O. TEAMS) Force Juniors Elite have started the Winter season at TOCA Rocky River strong. Our groups have the opportunity over the Summer to play against other teams and communities. The players in the program have put in a lot of hard work and it is really showing on game day.  Recently we have had the pleasure to promote two young ladies into the 2017 Club teams. Congratulations Maya and Sloane!

Boys ECNL U15-U19 Director

Boys ECNL U15-U19

Boys ECNL U15-U19 started training on Monday, November 4th. We had a small window of preparation before our first weekend of league games on November 16th & 17th. Some players had spent the fall playing in our USL Academy where that team had an excellent season, some had played with their High School.

We now start a very important period where our teams go to South Carolina in early December for college recruitment. Our Force college liaison Steve Brdarski continues to do a fantastic job at preparing our players for these events. Setting up group and individual meetings with players and families so that the player can have good communication with colleges that firstly suit them academically but also is a good fit for soccer. Steve is in constant communication with the college coaches and is a big resource for our families when navigating the college recruitment process which at times can be daunting and overwhelming.

After South Carolina our teams will be preparing for league games Dec 14th & 15th before a short break at new year and then another important college showcase down in Florida early January.

This period is very important for our staff to plan carefully with our training. It’s crucial that our players, after a busy fall season, get some time off but also to train intentionally so that we can continue to improve team chemistry and relationships on the field so we can be successful in these events.

Girls ECNL Director

Girls ECNL U15-U19

We officially kicked off our start to the 2024-2025 season!  A new setup this season sees our U15-U19 ECNL girls playing in the Ohio Valley Conference League Cup in place of OVC League games to start the season.  The League Cup is another pathway towards Champions League qualification at the end of the regular season.  The winners of each pod (ours includes PGH, WNY, ISC) will meet in Indianapolis at the end of January for the semis and finals with winners securing a spot in the Champions League at the end of June in San Diego.

There is still qualification outside of the League Cup for all playoffs (Champions League, North American Cup, Showcase Cup A, Showcase Cup B) through the traditional OVC league schedule; we do not begin league play until the first weekend in March.  In the meantime, our teams will be gearing up for the season by competing in a number of different ECNL showcases.  The 2006/07, 2008 and 2010 girls are headed to St. Louis in December and the 2008 and 2009 girls will be off to Lakewood Ranch, FL in early January.  The teams have been training for the past few weeks together and it’s great to finally get everyone back on the field together.

Girls ECNL U13-U14

The end of the fall season was very successful for our u11-14 Girls HP program. As we wrap up the fall, we have now turned the page to the winter season. In our immediate future, our u12, u13, and u14 USL Y teams will be heading to Tampa, FL to compete for a national championship. These groups are trying to build on the success we had there in 2023, which resulted in a national semi-finalist, a national finalist, and a national champion!

As we embark on the winter season journey, we will be putting immense amounts of focus on individual technical and physical development. The winter is a great time for us to reflect and assess the fall season, while preparing to see success in the spring.

We all hope you have a fantastic holiday season, and are humbled by the constant support and dedication from our families.

Steve Brdarski

Girls ECNL-RL Director

Girls ECNL-RL

The season started with great excitement, as the 2010, 2009, 2008, and 2006/07 teams played their first ever Ohio Valley League Cup games. The new league competition has the Ohio Valley conference split into four divisions of four teams. With only a few weeks of training, each team has started out with at least one win and the 2008 group won both their games. Each team has one game left to play in ten days to determine who will travel to Indianapolis in January for the semi-finals and final games from our respective group (joining the 2011 and 2012 RL teams that both qualified).

Our two oldest teams traveled to Bethesda for a college showcase a few weeks back. The 2008 RL team won all three of their games and had a chance to play in front of a good number of college coaches. The 2006/07 RL team had a great win in their first game against Maryland United. Proud of both groups being able to play with very little time to prepare and give a lot of credit to Coach Abby Richter for getting the teams ready.

We would like to welcome Eric Haecker to our coaching staff. He is currently coaching our 2009 and 2010 RL teams and has quickly transitioned into the new position. Eric is a native of Northeast Ohio, and has experience coaching at many levels (club, high school, college, and ODP). He is currently an assistant coach for the Cleveland State Women's soccer team and currently has his USSF C License. We really appreciate Eric's passion and work ethic to coach both these teams with a very quick transition.

The 2011 and 2012 RL teams have finished their league play for the year, with both groups at the top of their league standings. Both teams worked very hard and have spent the last few weeks on the practice field working on their individual development, improving their technical skill, and focusing on athletic performance. We would like to thank Coach Chris Hastings for his time and support. Lastly, the girls were able to play in the prestigious WAGS tournament in October, along with attending the NWSL season finale together. Thank you to the parents for all their help and support to make all this such a great experience!

After a successful High School season for many of our players, we are extremely excited to get the 2024-2025 club season started. We are looking forward to working with new players and coaches who recently joined our club in addition to the strong core of returning players.

Introducing our new staff and coaching assignments:

Please help us welcome coach Jamison as he gets started with CFSC. Coach Jamison played collegiately at John Carroll University and currently serves as the assistant coach for the Padua Franciscan HS Boys Soccer team.

Captain selection; our coaches will be selecting our team captains for the rest of the season in the next couple of weeks ahead of the start of league play. The established Guiding Principles of CFSC Captains will assist our coaches in selecting the player who is best prepared and displays the Guiding Principles daily on and off the field.

Dylan Tomlinson was recently selected for the Continental Tire ECNL Regional League Selection Game during the ECNL-RL Richmond, VA Showcase. It was a very exciting game where Dylan’s East team won in PKs after a 2-2 draw in regulation. This was a great opportunity for Dylan to compete with and against some of the best talent across the nation, and to showcase himself in front of many college coaches in attendance.

From Dylan: “My experience at the selection game was excellent. The honor to represent the club on such a stage was a blessing. The staff and players were great to be around. The atmosphere from the supporters was something I wasn’t expecting, the pressure they brought alongside the college scouts was one of my greatest privileges.”

Congratulations to our players who have been promoted from our Comp tier to the GLA platform:

Congratulations to our players who have moved from GLA to the ECNL-RL Platform.

Girls U13-U19 GLA Director

Girls U13-U18 GLA

We are happy to have all five teams training and playing! The 2007/08, 2009, and 2010 teams just started training a few weeks ago and kicked off their season with the GLA Showcase Nov. 22nd-24th.  This was a great opportunity for the teams to play games and build team chemistry on the field before heading into the winter months.

The fall season was a great time of growth and development for the 2012 and 2011 girls.  Both teams competed well in their GLA league games. Each team finished their fall season with the Season Finale Tournament at Lodi. The 2011’s were placed in a very challenging bracket and competed well. The 2012’s went undefeated in their group but finished as runner- up.  It was great to see the teams develop tactically and technically over the fall and look forward to building on things during the winter season.

Girls U8-U10 Competitive & High Performance

The 2015 High Performance girls have enjoyed getting into the TOCA training studio as part of their indoor training. The girls are assigned to training pods and focusing on high pace individual technical training. We have our U8-U10 girls participating in all different indoor leagues. Some are playing in CASA while others are in the Force leagues either playing a year up or against boy teams. We are excited to see the growth the girls make both individual and as a team this winter. Our main focus in winter is individual technical development, training sessions are extremely important to attend. With the holiday season upon us, please remember to update your PlayMetrics attendance for all trainings and games through January. We want to be able to fill rosters and have appropriate time to invite guest players. We tested the girls and their juggling scores at the start of indoor. Many girls improved. A special shout out to Saige Blumenthal and Lillian Hood who more than tripled their juggling score. The coaches were a little disappointed that more did not. Please remember to practice at home. Each players commitment to their development is imperative to their success. As a coaching staff we can see who practiced often and who did not. It is simple the only way to get better at juggling is to practice it. All 2017 and 2016 girls should save the date (if you are in town) Friday December 27th 3-5pm for a GO Holiday Big Sis Lil Sis Event. More details to come. We hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to your daughters development and your patience in understanding and supporting the process. It is a marathon not a sprint and we are thrilled to be apart of it.

Our Competitive Tier had a great end to the Fall Season, and are well into the first part of our Winter session and continuing to develop our technical abilities to increase skill acquisition.

The end of the Fall Season ended with all our teams participating in the Club Ohio Fall Classic. All of our teams competed very well, and you could see the growth of the teams through the weekend. Thanks to all the players that participated, especially our guest players! And thanks to all the parents and family members that helped to make the weekend enjoyable memory for them.

Congratulation to our 2013 Girls Black roster, who went on to win their bracket, going 3-1 on the weekend!

There was lots of fun, and bonding as well.

We have also seen a number of of Comp Tier players showing great growth and training and playing with our HP roster pools. Growth and Development continues to be at the forefront of our process. With that said, there still time to get into some of our Supplemental Training sessions — AOE (Athletes of Excellence) & Futsal. You’ll find them under the Club Programs section of your Playmetrics account.

The Winter Months give us a chance to head Indoors. Here we will place a heavy emphasis on Technical Development as you will see from our training sessions.

LOOKING BACK:

I want to celebrate all our Boys Teams for a Fantastic Fall Season! We really made some great progress throughout as the weeks went on and progress is our number 1 goal across the program!  We are continuing to see the by-product of doing the right things each week which is Positive Results on the Field. All of our teams are primed for a great Spring Season!

Player Evaluations went out so you should have a good idea where your son stands and some action items to progress more!  Self Evaluations are being reviewed by staff currently and will be discussed with kids if needed.

LOOKING FORWARD:

Winter brings us some Indoors Games which present a slightly different style of play and Games which are slightly less meaningful than the Outdoor ones meaning we can experiment a little more!  In training we have already begun to blend some of the groups a little with some of the Top Girls, Younger Boys or perhaps kids on a Volt Team joining a higher Team training. We will continue to use the Winter period as an assessment of players and rosters.

We have enjoyed incorporating the TOCA Studio's into our weekly training and the boys have really enjoyed that piece of the training which is great to see! I think it has provided us with a great way to get the Technical Reps and given the boys a new focus and challenge during those kind of exercises so really pleased with that so far and confident we will see some benefits early in the New Year from all that!

We have been thrilled to promote 5-6 players from our Competitive Tier into the High Performance Level so credit to those lads for working hard to improve and to Coach Mike and his program for pushing them to move up!

We have our USL Team of 2013's heading to Tampa in the middle of December to compete in the USL National Championships! Good luck to all the Force Teams that are attending!

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE

Owen continues to be the highest placed Kid in the Club Wide Fantasy Soccer League but there are a number of you hot on his heels! The Holiday Period is the best chance to make your move as there are so many games to watch!

As always should you need to chat your coaches should be your first point of call and if they are unable to help I am always here for you.

Thanks for the continued Support! Enjoy the Winter Games and have a great Holiday Season!

Huck Kurinsky Secures Third Consecutive USA BMX Freestyle National Championship

BAY VILLAGE, OH (October 14, 2024): Huck Kurinsky, a 9-year-old BMX freestyle rider from Bay Village, Ohio, has secured his third consecutive USA BMX Freestyle National Championship title. Huck, a fourth-grader at Westerly Elementary School, competed this past weekend at the US Cycling Olympic Training Center in South Jordan, Utah.

Kurinsky celebrated his victory alongside US Cycling Olympic Head Coach, and BMX Legend, Ryan Nyquist. This win further solidifies Kurinsky's position as a rising star in this Olympic sport.

In addition to his national championship win, Kurinsky recently achieved another impressive milestone: landing a double backflip. He accomplished this feat while training at the "Super Ramps" facility in Utah, the renowned Nitro Circus practice compound. Kurinsky is one of the youngest riders ever to successfully land a double backflip.

"I'm so excited to win another national championship and land the double backflip," said Kurinsky. "It was hard and I was so nervous, but I’ve had so much fun training in Utah, riding with my friends and some of the best riders in the world,”

Huck is proud to be the first Global Youth Ambassador for 135-year-old bike brand Huffy Bicycles, where he embodies the mottos, “Live the Ride” and “Be Bigger than the Bike.” While in Salt Lake City, Kurinsky visited the local Ronald McDonald House, where he toured the facility, met with families, and donated bicycles and scooters for the families to enjoy during their stay. This marks the fifth Ronald McDonald House that Kurinsky has visited while competing in the USA BMX Amateur National Series.

Huck is a fourth-grader at Westerly Elementary School in Bay Village, Ohio. He attends Bethesda on the Bay Lutheran Church, and plays soccer for the Cleveland Force and Bay Soccer Club. Huck is the global Youth Ambassador for Huffy Bicycles (Dayton, OH). He is a representative of the Ohio American Academy of Pediatrics helmet safety program, "Put A Lid on It", where he has distributed over 1000 free helmets to kids across Ohio this past year. He actively supports the Ronald McDonald House Charities, and The Cleveland Clinic Velosano and Trike & Bike “Ride to Cure,” where 100% of proceeds support cancer research in memory of his Grandma, Susan Althoff. Huck is the three-time National Champion of USA BMX Freestyle Amateur series, and four-time Ohio State champion.

Winter has already started and the boys are playing well indoors. The hard training and commitment to learning the game has really given our players success and opportunities to continue to succeed. It is crazy to think that the boys are already halfway through their club year.

As we reflect back it's important to celebrate success. The
2016 Boys White West finished second in the premier division of 2015 (u10). The team played up an entire age and at the highest local level. With an overall record of 6-0-1. Well done!!

Another fantastic highlight this fall season was the success of the
2016 Boys Volt West. The team showed fantastic technical and tactical improvement this fall. Battling all season all the way to two wins in the final weekend to win the 2016 second (u9) division in CASA. Congratulation boys and WELL done Coach Andy!
